Morning Signal: The Guest House

via Rumi

Today's Teaching

Rumi wrote:

"This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness... Welcome and entertain them all. Treat each guest honorably."

This morning, you're not fighting your feelings. You're learning to let them move through you without becoming them.

Centering Breath (2 minutes)

Sit comfortably. Place your hand on your heart.

Breathe in: "I welcome what is here." Breathe out: "I let it move through me."

You're not trying to feel better. You're practicing being spacious enough to hold whatever shows up — without resistance, without attachment.

Repeat 6 times.

Visualization (3 minutes)

Close your eyes. Imagine your awareness as a vast, open space — like a guest house with many rooms.

Now notice: What emotions are present this morning?

Maybe anxiety about the day ahead. Maybe heaviness from yesterday. Maybe excitement. Maybe nothing at all.

Whatever's there, greet it like a guest:

"Ah, fear. Welcome. You can stay, but you don't get to run the house." "Hello, doubt. I see you. You're allowed to be here."

Don't try to make them leave. Just acknowledge them. Let them exist without taking over.

Affirmation

Place both hands on your belly. Say gently:

"I am not my emotions. I am the space that holds them. I welcome all of it."

Closing Intention

Today, when a difficult emotion arises — frustration, sadness, anxiety — try this:

Instead of pushing it away or drowning in it, pause.

Name it: "This is anger" (not "I am angry").

Breathe with it: "You're welcome to be here. And you'll leave when you're ready."

The emotion will shift faster when you stop resisting it.
