The Last Day of July

The Last Day of July

Place both hands over your chest. Feel the slight warmth there — your own heat, returned to you. Take one slow breath in, and as you exhale, let your shoulders drop a full inch. That slow exhale activates vagal tone — the nervous system shifts toward rest, and the heart's rhythm begins to soften into cardiac coherence, a measurable state where the body's systems synchronize around the beat.

This month asked something of you. Recall one moment — just one — when your heart showed up anyway. Not perfectly, but present. Let that moment sit in your chest like a stone warmed by sun.

Ram Dass spent decades pointing at this: that coherence you feel is not yours alone. It is the one fire recognizing itself — in you, through you, as you. We are not candles in separate rooms. We are one fire that learned to imagine itself divided — and is only now remembering. What you carried this month, you never carried in isolation.

Now look around the room you're in. Notice the light. Notice what's still here. Notice you, still here — connected to every other flame that made it through July.

July is complete. You carried it, and it carried you.
