The Pull Before the Reason
The body registers meaning before the mind articulates it — interoceptive signals travel through the vagus nerve from the heart and gut to the brain as sensation before they become thought. What you feel as a pull is the nervous system pointing somewhere worth paying attention to.
Open your journal and write at the top: What have I been drawn to lately?
Don't think too hard. Let the list come loose — a person's way of moving, a particular hour of afternoon light, a sentence you read twice without knowing why. Write it all down without editing.
Now pick one. Put your pen on the page and ask: When did I first notice this pull? Trace it back as far as you can. Before you had words for it, before you decided it was meaningful — what were the sensory details? What did it feel like in your chest or throat?
Stay there for a few minutes. Thich Nhat Hanh called this looking deeply — not to analyze or explain, but to let what's present reveal itself without rushing it toward meaning. The attraction arrived before your reasoning did. That's the signal worth studying.
What you were pulled toward before you could explain it does not need to be followed to be honored. Sometimes the signal is complete in the noticing.
