The Seed Within: Sensing the Potential Already Present

The Seed Within: Sensing the Potential Already Present

You settle into stillness this morning, and already you notice something stirring beneath the surface of your ordinary awareness. There is a seed within you—not metaphorical, but sensed as a living presence in your chest cavity, in the warm center of your being. This seed contains everything you are becoming, though you cannot yet see its full unfolding. What you can do, right now, is turn your attention toward it with tenderness.

Begin by placing both hands on your heart. Feel the warmth of your own palms meeting your own chest. This is the first gesture of love you can offer to the potential that lives within you. Notice the rhythm of your breathing. You are not trying to change it; you are simply meeting it as it is, the way a gardener meets newly turned soil—with presence, not force.

Now imagine roots extending downward from this seed in your heart, moving through your torso, anchoring into the earth beneath you. These roots are not fragile. They are strong and searching, drawing nourishment from everything you have learned, everything you have survived, everything you have loved. You are not a new seed scattered carelessly on hard ground. You are a seed that has already begun to establish itself in the fertile ground of your own life.

Ram Dass taught that "we're all just walking each other home," and this includes walking ourselves home to the truth of what we already are. The potential you sense is not something distant you must chase. It is the deepest part of you, calling you toward recognition.

As you breathe, feel the stirring within. Not impatience. Not urgency. Simply the quiet, patient aliveness of something that knows exactly what it needs to become.

Kahlil Gibran wrote that "your heart knows in silence the secrets of the days and the nights." Your heart, in this moment, knows the seed. It knows what wants to emerge through you. You need only attend to it—not with grasping, but with the steady, loving attention that turns potential into presence.

Sit with your hands on your heart for one more breath. Let yourself know that you are already becoming.

Today's intention: I will tend to what is trying to grow within me by offering it my full, loving attention at least once before the day ends.
