The Slow Work Beneath the Soil

Find a comfortable seat and place both hands flat on your thighs. Feel the slight warmth where your palms meet your legs. Take a full breath in through your nose — notice if the air is cool or warm — and let it out slowly. Now think of something you have been tending: a hope, a project, a change you are making. It doesn't look like much yet. That's the thing about roots — you can't see them doing their work. Press your feet into the floor. Feel the ground pushing back, solid and patient. Nothing about this moment is wasted. The seed does not perform its sprouting. It simply continues.

You are already in the work, even when you cannot see it growing.
