Daily Practice Rituals

There's a kind of wanting that lives in the body before the mind gets involved. Before you talk yourself out of it, before you ask whether you deserve it or whether the timing is right or whether people will think you've changed. Just the want itself — hot, clear, alive.

Tonight's new moon is in Aries — fire, initiation, the part of you that moves first and thinks second. The energy here isn't gentle. It doesn't wait for permission. It's the ram that steps forward before the path is fully visible, because the path doesn't appear until you step. This is the first new moon of the astrological year, which means you're not just beginning a cycle — you're beginning the cycle. The one all the others follow. What you plant in this particular dark will carry a different kind of momentum.

That momentum begins with you telling the truth about what you want.

Find ten minutes tonight. Somewhere quiet enough to hear yourself. Sit down and close your eyes. Don't set an intention yet — don't do anything yet. Just breathe. In for four counts, out for four. Let your body remember that it already knows how to do this. Three rounds. That's it.

Now bring to mind something you've been wanting. Not the polished version — the real one. The thing you think about and then quickly think about something else. Let it surface without editing it. You're not committing to anything. You're just letting yourself feel it.

Ask yourself, quietly and honestly: What am I longing for that I haven't let myself fully want?

Sit with that. Don't rush the answer. Let it arrive the way warmth arrives — gradually, then undeniably. When you feel it, don't chase it. Don't visualize hard, don't strain toward it. Just breathe as if it's already yours. Not pretending. Not performing. Just resting inside the feeling of it — what your body would feel like if this were already real. Rumi said what you seek is seeking you, and that's not comfort, it's physics: the wanting and the thing wanted are already in motion toward each other. Your job tonight is just to stop turning away.

When you're ready, speak an intention. Inwardly or aloud — doesn't matter. Not a wish, not a hope. A declaration. Something like: I am ready to receive what I've been afraid to ask for. Or whatever form it takes in your own words. Say it with the quietness of someone who already knows.

The fire doesn't need your permission to burn. But it does need you to stop smothering it. That's tonight's real practice — not visualization, not affirmation. Just stopping the smothering. Just letting the wanting be real.

The new moon doesn't ask you to have it all figured out. It asks you to begin.

This ritual takes approximately 10 minutes. Do it tonight or within 48 hours of the new moon.
