There's something worth sitting with this morning — not as a concept, but as an experience.
You have a field. Not a metaphor, not a spiritual abstraction — a literal, felt quality that you carry into every room, every relationship, every conversation. The people closest to you can sense when you're present and when you're elsewhere. Your nervous system broadcasts a signal. And the world — your work, your money, your relationships, the unexpected phone calls and open doors — responds to that signal more than it responds to anything you plan or strategize or visualize.
This is what it means to be the prayer rather than to say one.
So this morning, before the day has its way with you, try this:
Find a chair, a cushion, a corner of your kitchen floor. Sit with your feet flat on the ground and your hands easy in your lap. Close your eyes. Take three slow breaths — not performed breathing, just real ones.
Now bring to mind something you genuinely want. Not to grasp at it. Not to rehearse how it hasn't arrived yet. Just let it be there, in front of your inner attention, like a friend sitting across the table.
Ask yourself: How does the version of me who already lives with this feel, right now, in the body?
Not in theory. In the body. Does that version of you breathe differently? Carry the shoulders differently? Move through a room with a different quality of unhurriedness?
Let that feeling come as close as you can get it. Even 30 percent of it. Even a trace.
Now stay there. Not with the vision of what you want. With the feeling of who you are when you're not waiting for it.
This is the practice: extending the radius. Because the field you carry doesn't stop at your skin. It touches your relationships — the way your partner feels around you when you're grounded versus scrambling. It touches your finances — the decisions you make from scarcity versus the ones you make from quiet confidence. It touches your sense of purpose — whether you're chasing meaning or living from it.
Friday is a good day to ask: what has this week been broadcasting? Not what did I do — what did I emit? What frequency did I carry into the rooms I entered, the emails I sent, the moments I almost showed up for but didn't quite land in?
You don't have to fix the answer. Just know it.
And then, for the rest of this morning, let yourself be exactly here. Not more productive. Not more certain. Just here — in this body, in this breath, in this specific and unrepeatable Friday.
The signal is clear when you stop jamming it with somewhere else.
That's enough. That's the whole practice.
