Third Quarter Moon in Scorpio: Your Release Ritual

The Third Quarter Moon — also called the Last Quarter — marks the final release before the lunar cycle completes.

And this one lands in Scorpio.

Not the lightest energy. Not the most comfortable. But exactly what's needed if you're ready to let go of what you've been carrying in the shadows.

Scorpio doesn't do surface-level work. This moon asks: What truth have you been avoiding? What pattern keeps repeating because you won't face it? What are you holding onto that's already dead?

This is the moon phase for honest release. For seeing what's been lurking beneath the surface and finally letting it go.

What This Moon Phase Means for Manifestation

The Third Quarter Moon is the turning point between fullness and emptiness.

You've received the Full Moon's revelations. You've seen what's not working. Now it's time to actively release it — not just acknowledge it, but energetically cut the cord.

In Scorpio, this release goes deep.

Scorpio rules:

  • Shadow work and psychological healing
  • Power dynamics and control
  • Transformation through crisis
  • Sexual energy and life force
  • Death, rebirth, and regeneration

This isn't the moon for surface cleaning. This is the moon for clearing the basement — the stuff you've been storing because you didn't know how to let it go.

What wants to die so something new can be born?

The Ritual: Scorpio Release & Reclaim

You'll need:

  • A candle (black or deep purple for Scorpio transformation)
  • Paper and pen
  • A fireproof bowl or container
  • Optional: obsidian or black tourmaline for grounding

Find a quiet space. Light the candle. Close the door.

Step 1: Ground into your body (3 minutes)

Sit comfortably. Place your hands on your belly.

Breathe slowly and deeply. Feel your body — not your thoughts, your body.

Scorpio is a water sign, but it's fixed water. Deep. Still. Heavy.

Let yourself sink into the weight of what you've been carrying.

Don't fix it. Don't story around it. Just feel it.

Step 2: Name what you're releasing (5 minutes)

On the paper, write:

"I release..."

Then list everything that's ready to go:

  • The pattern of self-sabotage when things get good
  • The fear of being seen in my full power
  • The story that I'm too much / not enough
  • The relationship that ended but I'm still energetically tied to
  • The version of myself I've outgrown but keep performing

Be specific. Scorpio doesn't respond to vague intentions.

Step 3: Feel the cost of holding on (2 minutes)

Read your list aloud.

For each item, ask: "What has this cost me?"

Not just logically. Feel it.

The opportunities you didn't take. The love you didn't let in. The version of yourself you kept small.

Let the grief come if it needs to. Scorpio honors the mourning process.

Step 4: Burn the list (ritual release)

Hold the paper over the bowl.

Say aloud:

"I release these patterns back to the earth. What I no longer need, I return. What has served its purpose, I honor and let go. I reclaim my power now."

Light the paper. Watch it burn.

As it burns, exhale fully. Feel the energetic cords severing.

You're not destroying these patterns with force. You're releasing them with reverence.

Step 5: Reclaim your power (3 minutes)

Place your hands on your heart.

Scorpio is about power — not power over others, but power reclaimed from what's been draining you.

Ask: "What power returns to me now that I've released this?"

Maybe it's:

  • The power to be vulnerable without collapsing
  • The power to hold boundaries without guilt
  • The power to want what you want without apology
  • The power to trust yourself again

Feel that power returning to your body. Breathe it in. Let it settle.

Step 6: Seal with water (symbolic cleansing)

Go to the sink or shower.

Wash your hands (or your whole body if you're called to).

As the water runs, imagine it washing away the residue of what you've released.

Scorpio is water. Let it carry away what's complete.

Step 7: Close the ritual (grounding)

Blow out the candle.

Place your hands on the earth (or the floor if you're inside).

Say: "It is done. I am clear. I am free."

Journal Prompts: Scorpio Shadow Integration

After the ritual, sit with these questions:

  1. What truth about myself have I been avoiding because it felt too raw, too much, or too powerful?

(Scorpio doesn't fear intensity. It fears pretending everything is fine when it's not.)

  2. Where in my life am I giving my power away — to people, to patterns, to old stories — and what would change if I took it back?

(Power isn't something you earn. It's something you stop giving away.)

  3. What needs to die in my life so that the next version of me can be born?

(Scorpio knows: transformation requires something ending. What's ready to end?)

Affirmations for This Lunar Cycle

Speak these daily until the New Moon (Feb 17):

  1. "I release what no longer serves me with grace and gratitude. I am safe to let go."

  2. "I reclaim my power from every place I've left it. I am whole, sovereign, and free."

  3. "I trust the process of death and rebirth. What leaves makes space for what's meant to stay."

Elemental Support (Optional)

If you want to deepen the ritual, work with Scorpio's elemental allies:

  • Crystals: Obsidian (protection during shadow work), black tourmaline (grounding), labradorite (transformation)
  • Herbs/Scents: Mugwort (psychic clarity), patchouli (grounding), sandalwood (purification)
  • Colors: Deep purple, black, burgundy (Scorpio's transformative shades)
  • Element: Water — take a ritual bath with sea salt to seal the release

After the Ritual

Don't be surprised if the next few days feel intense.

Scorpio releases aren't always gentle. You might feel raw. You might cry. You might suddenly see patterns you've been blind to for years.

This is the medicine working.

Trust the process. Stay hydrated. Move your body. Let the old energy move through and out.

By the New Moon on Feb 17, you'll be clear. Empty. Ready to plant new seeds in soil that's finally been cleared.
