The Liberation Practice: Completing What Has Already Begun

The Liberation Practice: Completing What Has Already Begun

Sit somewhere you won't be interrupted. A chair, the floor, wherever your back can be long and your hands can rest easy.

Close your eyes. Take one breath in through your nose — slow, filling — and let the exhale go without controlling it. Let it just fall out.

Do that twice more.

Something has opened. You may not be able to name it precisely, and that's fine. It may have arrived as a restlessness, a clarity you didn't ask for, or a quiet knowing that something no longer fits. This is how genuine shifts move through us — without asking permission. What gets loosened must eventually be set down.

This practice is the setting down.

Bring your attention to the inside of your body. Start just below your navel. Rest your awareness there for a few breaths.

Now ask, without forcing an answer: Is there something I've been carrying that has already begun to loosen?

Don't think about it. Let your body answer. You may feel a slight contraction in your chest, a held place in your shoulders, a tightening across your jaw. It doesn't need to be dramatic. Even a small density counts.

Find that place.

Put your hand there — wherever you feel the holding — chest, throat, belly. Let the weight of your palm rest against it.

Breathe in slowly, directing the breath toward that spot. Not to fix it. Just to arrive at it. To acknowledge: yes, this is here. I feel it.

On the exhale, don't try to release anything yet. Just breathe out slowly. Let the hand stay. Let the awareness stay.

Do this three times. Breath in — arriving. Breath out — slow, steady, not forcing.

On your fourth exhale, let the breath carry something with it.

Not a thought. Not a story. Just the physical density — let it soften on the out-breath, like a fist unclenching. You don't need to know what you're releasing. The body knows. The identifying has already happened. You're completing the motion.

Exhale slowly. Let the hand feel the softening beneath it.

Take another breath in.

Another exhale — slow, full. Let even more go.

One more. And this time, at the bottom of the exhale, pause in the empty space. Before the next inhale arrives.

Be in that space.

That emptiness is not a loss. It is room.

The unhidden self doesn't emerge into fullness — it emerges into space. It needs somewhere to stand. What you just released was occupying that ground.

Breathe in gently. Let the body fill back up — not with the old weight, but with air, with the ordinary breath of someone who has, for a moment, put something down.

Take one more full breath. Open your eyes when you're ready.

The space you found here is real — and it stays with you, ready, whenever the carrying starts again.
